Chapter Ten

Saturday nightâ¦
It had been two nights since our first date, if that could be counted as a date.
While weâd been picking ourselves up off the broken lounger and Iâd been helping her to her feet, the lights had come back on. The sight of a naked Tabitha Newton, her hair a mess and lips swollen because of me, had made round two happen almost immediately after weâd finished round one. Iâd gotten rid of the condom, carried her through to her bedroom, and that had been us until Iâd had to get up to go into work at six oâclock the next morning.
A couple of people had been off sick from work with some sort of summer stomach bug that was going around, so Iâd been working longer hours to keep us covered. Not wanting Tabby to think I was avoiding her after the night weâd had together, Iâd told her Iâd bring dinner round every night, and I had.
Over meals from Jillyâs Diner, weâd settled and become more comfortable around each other. That said, not once did I have my handcuffs out of arms reach, just in case. She still didnât know my secret, and every time her mouth twisted when she mentioned what Jose had been through, or said sheâd bumped into Rita in town getting groceries, I knew I was going to have to use them to get her to listen to me when the time came. I should have been honest from the beginning, but I hadnât known that things would work out between us the way they had. I wasnât intense when I was in a relationship, it just wasnât the sort of thing I ever wanted to be with a woman, but with Tabitha it was different.
Iâd been called back out to the retirement home again this morning because of another argument between Mrs. Keating and Mrs. Bane, this time over old man Beck. It was fair to say that I was the one who was âshookâ this time after hearing how heâd been dating Mrs. Keating for a couple of weeks, and that sheâd found him naked in Mrs. Baneâs room. Old man Beck was nowhere to be seen, but the two women were pulling hair, trying to rip each otherâs dentures out, and all the staff had just been standing watching it. After yelling at them to do their jobs, theyâd informed me that the women were only in their assisted living area. Oh, and it wasnât in their job descriptions that they were to get involved in volatile situations which could cause an injury to their bodies, so thatâs why theyâd called me.
Needless to say, I had a lot to say to the owners and management of the home and Iâd done it in a strongly worded letter on our official paper. Iâd also used my visit to old man Beckâs place to lay it out for him for an extra visit to see Tabby. Sheâd answered the door in
